Clinical Notes Templates for Pearl & Dental4Windows (UK)
Nosht
Published by Nosht Limited
Pearl and Dental4Windows each run UK general-practice workflows their own way, but both accept a pasted clinical note the same way. This guide covers the copy-paste workflow common to both, and the honest limits of pairing a notes app with any of them.
Why pair a notes app with these systems
Pearl and Dental4Windows both handle the practice-management side of a UK dental practice — appointments, patient records and billing — and, like every PMS, their clinical notes field is a free-text box with no built-in prompts for GDC Standards or FGDP(UK)/CGDent documentation requirements.
A structured notes app produces the complete, compliance-prompted note first; you paste the finished text into whichever of these systems your practice runs. None of them need to change for this to work.
The copy-paste workflow, step by step
Copy-paste is the universal method across UK PMS platforms, Pearl and Dental4Windows included — it works because every clinical notes field accepts pasted plain text, regardless of how the PMS itself is built.
- In your notes app, select the template for the treatment (exam, filling, extraction, and so on)
- Select your findings from the structured options
- Click "Copy" to copy the complete note to your clipboard
- Switch to your PMS (Pearl or Dental4Windows) and open the patient's clinical notes screen
- Click into the notes field and paste
- Save the note in your PMS as normal
Where the note lands, and what to check
- The pasted text lands in your PMS's own clinical notes field, becoming part of its patient record exactly as if typed directly.
- Patient demographics, appointments and billing stay exactly where they are in your PMS — the notes app should only ever produce the note text.
- Check the paste renders as plain text in your system — avoid notes apps that output markdown or rich formatting if a paste looks cluttered.
- If your PMS is accessed via a browser, run your notes app in the same browser session for the fastest handover; if it's a desktop application, keep both open side by side.
Honest limits
Be clear about what this is: copy-paste, nothing more. Nosht has no API connection, partnership or official integration agreement with Pearl or Dental4Windows. If a notes-app vendor claims direct integration with one of these systems, ask them to demonstrate it live in your own PMS before relying on it.
Copy-paste's advantage is that it cannot break when any of these systems is updated the way a tighter integration could, and it needs no sign-off from your practice's IT or the PMS vendor.
Which templates to use
Use the template matching the treatment you're documenting — examination, restorative, endodontics, oral surgery, periodontal and the rest. Nosht ships 50 templates for general practice, each producing clean plain text that pastes into any of these systems' notes fields.
Where Nosht fits
Nosht is built for exactly this copy-paste workflow, whichever of these systems your practice runs: select your findings, copy the finished note, paste into your PMS, save.
Patient demographics and the record itself stay in your PMS, where they belong. Nosht's clinical notes hold no patient identifiers — only clinical descriptors — and no audio is captured. There are two exceptions, both optional: the Referral Letter template, where you choose to enter patient details (name and date of birth, with NHS number, address and contact optional); and Send Leaflet, which processes a patient's email address or mobile number solely to deliver a patient information leaflet.

Frequently asked questions
Do Pearl or Dental4Windows have built-in structured notes?
Each system's clinical notes field is a free-text box, with no structured, prompted templates built in for GDC/FGDP(UK) documentation. Practices either type notes directly or pair their PMS with a dedicated notes app and paste the finished note across.
Does Nosht integrate directly with Pearl or Dental4Windows?
No. Nosht has no partnership or direct integration with any of these systems. The method is copy-paste — reliable, and the same method that works with every UK PMS.
Is copy-pasting from a notes app into these systems secure?
Your clipboard is local to your device — nothing is transmitted during the copy-paste step. Overall security depends on where the notes app processes and stores the note before you paste, and on your PMS's own security where the final note is saved.
How long does the copy-paste workflow take?
The copy-paste handover itself takes a few seconds; most of the time is spent writing the note in the template, which depends on the case — time it on your own appointments.
